Yidong Gu

Character introduction

Prof. Yidong Gu was graduated from the Engineering Physics Department of Tsinghua University in 1970, and engaged in the cosmic-ray and high-energy astrophysics research in the Institute of High Energy Physics of CAS during 1974-1994. Since 1994 to 2009 he was appointed a general designer of the utility system for China’s manned space engineering to be responsible and completed for more than 50 scientific experimental projects on manned spacecraft involving the earth observation, the life science and the microgravity science, as well as astronomy and space environment. He also has led the mission planning of space science and application on board of space laboratories and China’s Space Stations (CSS). Now he is the chief expert of space science for CSS, and the direct of the academic committee of the Space application center of the CAS.
He won a National Special Class and a second Class Award for Scientific and Technological Progress. In 2005. He has elected as an academician of the CAS.

Topic: Science Program on the China’s Space Station

Abstract  China will build a long-term on orbit manned space station in 2022 or later. Two manned and two cargo ships will be docked each year after the space station is built. This presentation will give an overview of China’s Space Station (CSS) engineering and introduce the scientific program of CSS。CSS will become the space laboratory in national class. The science aria including life science, biotechnology, fluid physics, combustion science, material science, fundamental physics, astronomy, space physics geoscience and it’s applications. A series of scientific experimental platforms and research facilities have been developed for these studies. Through a series of scientific research on board of CSS, we hope to make important achievements in the frontier science research, and strengthen the transformation of its scientific output, contribute to such aspects as new drugs, renewable medicine, energy saving and emission reduction, environmental protection, new materials, industrial process optimization and so on, so as to benefit people health, improve the life quality,and promote economic development. The science research opportunity of CSS is opening to the world, has solicited proposals from scientists of different countries.
